I wonder if this is why they stopped the book study meetings. Private meeting at private places with small groups. I remember when I was little those would start at 7:30 on a school day and often go on for 2-3 hours if you had a ‘real’ book study group. Funnily enough, the entire book study group became apostate as a result and soon after they cancelled them all and put them in the Kingdom Halls, then they eliminated them a few years later.

Ban on Independent Meetings
by lssjr insource - march 2021 announcements - - https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5085868283920384/2021-march-147-english-german-announcements-reminders.
this is a sobering reminder of what happened some 40 years ago when raymond franz and others were literally kicked out from the jehovah's witnesses for having pre-arranged private spiritual discussions.lesson: paragraph 7 is another example of the i and t in dr. steven hassan's bite model of the 21st century cult - information and thought control at its best!!!!
"my gosh, there must be a lot of independent meetings these days.

Is AI going to change the world?
by Reasonfirst inhad lunch with a friend, whose a lecturer in the accounting dept.
of one of australia's best universities.
he told me he expects to lose his job at some point in the next 5 years, as the accounting dept, will disappear, as all accounting will be done by ai programs, so why teach it.. if his fears are correct, that means that any profession that involves the mind, may one day face the same future.

@SydBarrett: the automatic loom and the steam engine did pretty much the same thing, probably at greater pace than so-called AI can. Unemployment became lower and overall wealth and quality of life higher as a result and today there are now millions of open jobs to do maintenance on the machines. We also have shortages of people that can build an AI-oriented infrastructure, both physically and logically, the explosion in chip manufacturing that will be required, it will be more like the Internet when it became well established, everyone became a web developer overnight.
In their current state, the current models may be good enough to augment a good entry level employee in coding, accounting etc, it’s a better search engine and may be able to replace ghostwriters and anyone producing such derivative crap. So white collar jobs are more likely to be replaced, AI plumbers, electricians etc will require AGI and very advanced robots which humanity is at least a century away from if at all possible to do economically.

My decision.
by MissDaSilva ini’ve decided to disassociate from the jw organisation.
i cannot be part of a community that blatantly rejects the sacrifice of jesus in that demonic memorial ritual.
amazing what information you find when you start researching.. i’m writing my letter and posting it to the kingdom hall this morning.

@jhine: don’t disagree with your comment about communion, but Paul also commented that they would do this at least weekly, if not daily. Nowhere does it indicate once a year at a special date.

Never knew that about the unions. What part of ‘being no part/member/support of this world’s political systems’ is that?

Are Atheists Hypocritical in Celebrating Christmas?
by Sea Breeze inrichard dawkins revealed that he celebrates christmas on radio four's today programme.. here is is quoted as saying: .

@Sea Breeze: the evidence for the Jesus character as a real person is tenuous at best. It references real people in the scripture like Herod and Pontius Pilate (the latter who is villainized in the Western Christian tradition, but a saint in the Coptic traditions), but the timeline is off and different gospels have different storylines. Legally speaking, Jesus trial makes no sense and wouldn’t have happened given the situation at the time. It makes up things like the census that supposedly brought Jesus to Betlehem, it is anachronistic in many of its stories and borrows heavily from other prevalent Greek and Roman deities and religious scriptures.
You keep bringing up a single scholar in Bart Ehrman, even though there are literally hundreds of scholars that do not share his viewpoints. You are cherry picking your evidence at best.
I much more believe Jesus to be an amalgamation of characters and ideas, perhaps there was a rabble rouser named Yeshua back then but history seems to have largely forgotten him. Contemporary Roman writings have no evidence and even writers that came much later like Josephus don’t mention him as a real person (with the exception of a forgery) and many other Christian and Jewish writers of the time don’t mention him at all. Matter of fact, the majority of contemporary evidence, including gnostic Christian and Jewish writers would say that he wasn’t a person at all, the idea that he was a real human is both rather modern and very selective.

Plenty of stuff to find online, lots of people spun up a little cotton industry with JW.org merch after the rebranding. Tie clips, sweaters, t-shirts, Caleb and Sophia branded stuff. Look on Amazon, Temu, Etsy etc.

So what happens next...
by Farmer Jim1 inwith what is arguably the biggest change to jw life in recent decades (the scrapping of publishers counting hours) what does this lead to?.
in my mind these are the results;.
1) a massive decrease in 'preaching hours'.

So now that you no longer count time, do they still announce times for field circus at the meeting? It used to be every morning 9am in some location and then Saturdays at 9am and 2pm and then Sundays after/before the meeting. Even during my tenure, now well more than a decade ago, weekday field circus was down to 2 days.

Not sure why you need taxes for any of this. In the US I pay a private company for my trash, my electric and my water and sewage. It is all very cheap and high quality (4c/kWh for electric, $25 per quarter for water, $30/month for trash, $200 every 2-3 years for sewage). I don’t have to sort my recycling or any such pointless crap I used to do in Europe. If I don’t pay the trash guy, the trash guy doesn’t show up, if I want more than an 80 gallon bin and 2 bags per week, I call him and pay an extra $5 for 2 bins.
All of this can and should be arranged by a free market. If you don’t pay and try to freeload, you would die in a matter of days. People are motivated by not dying.

It’s pretty easy to verify this information, look at their IRS statements, look at the trust companies. Investments in the past decade:
Raytheon, BlackRock (far-left investment and political pressure organization), Northrop-Grumman, Pfizer. Significant signatory investments accounts in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Sierra Leone etc.
